Cutting Instructions
1
Load the Hedgehog Plush (Cut & Stitch) file into your cutting machine’s software. Notice that some sizes have multiple cutting files to fit all the pieces. These are labeled with “A”, “B”, etc., and are organized by how they fit into a file and not necessarily by fabric.
2
This design has two different fabric colors across the different files. Proceed in the design software until the first color selection appears and is ready to be cut.
3
Smooth the first fabric color onto the adhesive mat with the right side of the fabric facing up. Make sure the correct knife tool is in place. Then load the adhesive mat into the machine.
4
Cut out the first color. For faux fur, you may need to increase the pressure of the blade on your cutting machine. Use a setting that would be used for denim or other thick materials. Then carefully remove the cut pieces and excess fabric.
5
Repeat to cut all of the fabric pieces for the Hedgehog Plush out of the two fabric colors.
Crafting Instructions
1
To assemble the hedgehog, first take the two ear pieces (color 1), and place them on top of each other with right sides together. Pin them together, matching up the edges.
2
Then sew 1/4” seam around the curved edges, leaving the bottom edge open. Repeat this step for the other ear.
3
Trim the seam around the curved edge. Be careful not to cut the seam.
4
Turn the ear right side out. Then fill the ear with polyester fiber fill. Repeat this for both ears.
5
Pin one ear to the left face piece, right over the notch on the straight side.
6
Then, pin the left body piece (color 2) to the left face piece (color 1) along the straight side with right sides together. Make sure the ear is sandwiched between both fabrics.
7
Sew the pieces together, leaving a 1/4” seam allowance.
8
Repeat the previous steps for the right side of the ear, face, and body.
9
Pin the left and right sides together, with right sides together.
10
Sew from the notch on face up around the top edge to the notch on the back end, leaving the bottom open.
11
Line up the notch on the bottom piece (color 1) with the back seam on the body (color 2). Pin the bottom piece onto the body, and make sure to leave a 2” to 3” opening along one side.
12
Then sew a 1/4” seam, making sure to leave the opening for turning.
13
Trim the corners, cut slits along the curved edges of the nose and back. Be careful not to cut the seam.
14
Then turn the hedgehog right side out. Gently use a pencil or end of a paint brush to push the nose out, but be gentle so you don’t rip the fabric from the seam.
15
Stuff the hedgehog with polyester fiber fill.
16
Then fold in the edges 1/4, and hand sew the opening closed with matching thread.
17
Finally, use a matching thread and hand sewing needle to sew the eyes and nose onto the hedgehog.
18
This completes the Hedgehog Plush. Repeat these steps, using different colors, to make an array of hedgehogs in different colors and sizes. Make sure not to resize these designs, as the seam allowance makes them unscalable.
