3D Christmas Houses Advent Calendar

Countdown the days to Christmas with a tabletop SVG/DXF Advent calendar made of 3D wood houses!  There's a drawer hidden inside each one where you can place special treats and gifts for the holidays. Once you've cut and engraved each piece using your Glowforge or other laser cutting machine, follow along with the instructions below to learn more about how to assemble each house.

  • .125" wood
  • Wood glue

Tools

  • Glowforge or other laser cutting machine
  • Electronic calipers for adjusting kerf

Products Used

  • Christmas Houses Advent Calendar (Laser Cutting) (Sku: CM81018-1)

Each of the advent calendar houses is made of 11 wooden pieces: 6 exterior house pieces, and 5 interior drawer pieces. In the cutting guide, the exterior house pieces are labeled with the letters A-F, and the interior drawer pieces are labeled with the letters G-K.  It may be helpful for you to separate them into groups as shown above.

Steps To Complete

How to Construct the Exterior for the Tall Houses

Glue the back piece (2D) to the house base (2C).

Glue the side pieces (2A and 2B) on either side of the back piece (2D) to form the walls of the house.

Using glue, attach the larger of the two roof pieces (2E) to the top of the house structure. Hold the piece steady until the glue dries for best results.

Glue the smaller of the two roof pieces (2F) on the remaining side of the roof. Hold this piece steady until the glue dries for best results as well.

Once the glue for this side has dried, set the house exterior aside while you construct the interior drawer.

How to Construct the Interior Drawer for the Tall Houses

Glue the drawer wall (2G) into the slats on the drawer base (2I).

Slide the tabs on the drawer back piece (2J) into the slots on the drawer wall (2G) and drawer base (2I) then glue in place.

Glue the other drawer wall (2H) to the other side of the drawer back piece (2J).

Glue the engraved front piece (2K) to the assembled interior drawer.

Once the glue has dried, slide the drawer into the house opening to complete the tall house!

How to Construct the Exterior for the Short House

Glue back piece (1D) to the house base (1C).

Glue side pieces (1A and 1B) on either side of the back piece (1D) to form the walls of the house.

Using glue, attach the larger of the two roof pieces (1E) to the top of the house structure. Hold the piece steady until the glue dries for best results.

Glue the smaller of the two roof pieces (1F) on the remaining side of the roof. Hold this piece steady until the glue dries for best results as well.

Once the glue for this side has dried, set the house exterior aside while you construct the interior drawer.

How to Construct the Interior Drawer for the Small Houses

Glue the drawer wall (1G) into the slats on the drawer base (1I).

Slide the tabs on the drawer back piece (1J) into the slots on the drawer wall (1G) and drawer base (1I) then glue in place.

Glue the other drawer wall (1H) to the other side of the drawer back piece (1J).

Glue the engraved front piece (1K) to the assembled interior drawer.

Once the glue has dried, slide the drawer into the house opening to complete the short house!

Now that you've learned the process of constructing the 3D Christmas Houses, making the rest will be simple. Leave the houses a natural wood tone, or decorate with paint and stain. Your finished project will be as unique as you.
